HOW MUCH BETTER TO GET WISDOM THAN GOLD, TO GET INSIGHT RATHER THAN SILVER!
Hi all. It has been a world wind of a few months, I’ll be honest it has not been easy. My health is declining more and more and honestly it’s getting a little overwhelming and even a little scary.
As you know from my last Vlog/blog, my Doctors were suspecting I had developed something called abdominal compartment syndrome, if you do not know what that is either watch/read my past vlogs/blogs or google it LOL. All I’ll say is it can be a very serious and scary condition, my Doctors were 99.9% sure that’s what I had but than when they brought a plastic surgeon into my case he wasn’t as convinced as they were so he suggested I go into the hospital (be admitted) for a few days to get what is called an intra abdominal pressure monitoring test, I explain what that is in more detail in the Vlog so if you want a good explanation go watch the Vlog LOL.
Anyways after having that test it kind of left us with mixed signals to be honest, yes my levels were on the higher side, but not quite high enough to say I had abdominal compartment syndrome so instead they diagnosed me with having abdominal hypertension, what is that exactly? Well I explain in detail what it is in my Vlog, but basically it’s not quite the same as abdominal compartment syndrome but it’s creeping towards that, it’s kind of what you get right before that happens.
Now the tricky thing is, for some people it never goes into compartment syndrome, it just stays in this abdominal hypertension stage forever, but than others it does go into compartment syndrome so right now it’s a waiting game.
The other tricky thing is, there are not many people that battle this issue for the reason I am battling it. I developed this because the scoliosis that I battle is extremely severe and it’s getting ten times worse as I’m aging, I mean it’s moving at a rapid pace if you ask me. The thing is though that most people do not develop these abdominal issues from scoliosis, they mostly develop it from bad car accidents and most people that do develop it from battling scoliosis usually do not battle it from having OI. You see I developed severe scoliosis from battle OI (Brittle bone disease) yes most people with OI battle scoliosis but it usually doesn’t get as advanced as mine has gotten, plus there are not many OI patients who have survived as long as I have. They usually pass away at very young ages, so there’s just not much information about people having OI and abdominal hypertension or abdominal compartment syndrome. Usually people that do develop abdominal hypertension from scoliosis are people that battle other types of severe skeletal diseases such as osteoporosis or muscular dystrophy and many other diseases like this. These are the more common ones for causing stuff like abdominal hypertension or compartment syndrome.
But people who battle it from OI, especially the type of OI I battle is just extremely rare. So because of the fact that it is so rare for us “OI’ERS” as we call ourselves, they don’t know how severe it can get and they don’t know what high levels for someone like me would be. For example, when they do this pressure test they are looking for gas levels in your abdomen to be higher than 12, if you have a level of 12 to 15 I think than they consider that to be grade 1 if you have a level from 16 to 20 than they consider that to be grade 2 if you have a level of 21 to 25 than they consider that grade 3 and if you have a level of 25 they consider that grade 4 but if you go over that 25 mark or if you consistently stay at 25 even than that’s when your reaching compartment syndrome stage. My numbers were going from 16-18 there were a few times we got down to 13 so that’s why they are thinking I am battle grade 2 abdominal hypertension. But again they’re not sure if this number system that they use for the average person would be the same for me the number 16 for me might affect me more than the average person. For example a level 16 for me might feel like it was someone who had a level of 23. I hope you’re all understanding what I mean, I know it’s complicated 😂 but in a nutshell it means as long as none of my organs are being effected and as long as I’m not feeling any worse than we’re just going to keep watching it closely and that’s it. Like my surgeon keeps saying, my body is going to tell me what’s wrong a lot faster than a test will, so that’s what we’re going to do, we’re going to keep a close eye on my body and let it do the talking LOL 😂 I am going to try to live my life to the best of my ability and try to live it to the fullest and try not to dwell on how awful I feel and just keep marching on LOL. One last update before I end this blog.
